This week made me proud of my fellow Americans. However, as I warned yesterday, we won a battle...the war continues.
Rep. Lamar Smith (the author of SOPA) is back with a new bill called the Protect Children from Internet Pornographers Act. Nice name right?
Read about it here. Essentially what this bill does is require ISPs to keep a tab on websites you visit and credit card transactions you make. It's 24/7 surveillance of the Internet that the government can request at any time. Of course if you oppose it, you support child porn!
And the Supreme Court just ruled that Congress can re-copyright old material effectively ending the classical music industry as well as ruining future Disney movies.
I don't want to downplay the success of the SOPA/PIPA activism, but we have our work cut out for us. This is where we find out if the Americans who were upset about these piracy bills were upset solely because they wanted their music sites and YouTube videos...or are they going to be just as concerned about Internet privacy now that they have awoken? Time will tell...
