So uber-rascist!
David Brooks sounds like a neo-colonialist when he states, "Islamists might be determined enough to run effective opposition movements and committed enough to provide street-level social services. But they lack the mental equipment [emphasis added] to govern. Once in office, they are always going to centralize power and undermine the democracy that elevated them. "
On another note - don't all of our "elected" officials attempt to "centralize power and undermine the democracy that elevated them?" When was the last time you heard of a redistricting bill proposed by a Republican that would help Democrats, or vice versa? When was the last time a president was elected and issued signing statements relinquishing executive powers accrued over previous administrations?
It sounds like David Brooks is justifying a coup in the United States!
